You'll need a USB key with at least 2GB storage to make a bootable Ubuntu USB stick. You can
download the latest release from the Ubuntu website.
From Ubuntu Unity Dash search for Startup Disk Creator.

Click on
Other... to search for the Ubuntu ISO you've downloaded.
Click on
Make Startup Disk and wait for the process to complete.

Your USB stick is ready to boot.
