Updating the driver
On Ubuntu it's a good idea to remove the current proprietary driver before installing a newer one. Past experience shows this is less problematic than just updating straightaway.
~$ sudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh
Reboot, then install the latest Catalyst driver.
~$ sudo sh amd-driver-installer-8.982-x86.x86_64.run
Reboot then you're done.

Running Unigine Santuary, Tropics & Heaven doesn't turn up anything interesting though. There might be an ever so slight performance degrade. Nothing significant to worry about at this point.
