Ubuntu "Quantal Quetzal" Alpha 3 released

Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha 3 came out this past week with kernel 3.5, Python 3.0 by default, Unity 6, and many more updates.

Python 3.0 is now default and the only Python available on the Ubuntu CD. Python 2.x is still available from the repositories while software that uses Python 2.x get slowly ported over to the newer Python 3.0 code.

With the use of the latest stable kernel release, we're also now using Deadline scheduler for both server and desktop.

Other notable changes:
  • Update Manager is renamed to Software Updater.
  • Jockey is now deprecated.
  • X.org, GNOME and LibreOffice got updated. Another X.org stack update is expected to come.
  • The ISO filesize has grown to 800MB.
