Mounting the Ubuntu LiveCD image

Following Dinesh's request that I send the preview wallpaper for Edgy to him, I've figured out how to mount the squashfs image used by the Ubuntu developers. True, it's nothing new to most people but I certainly never thought of trying it before, so it's something new I've learnt tonight :-P

The filesystem image for the Ubuntu LiveCD is stored in a file called filesystem.squashfs contained in the /casper folder. To mount it to your current Ubuntu setup (so you don't have to restart & boot into the LiveCD to access its contents) just do the following:

$ sudo mkdir /mnt/livecd
$ sudo mount -t squashfs -o loop /media/cdrom0/casper/filesystem.squashfs /mnt/livecd

The LiveCD should be now mounted @ /mnt/livecd ready for your browsing pleasure ;-)
